Many of our projects start off as a simple conversation between our team and the customer. This was the case with John Preston & Co, who called our offices to discuss the installation of speed ramps and bollards at their premises.
Project Overview
The customer had identified issues where speeding was becoming a problem, and something needed to be done to keep pedestrians safe. The key area was right outside the showroom, where there is a lot of foot traffic.
Additionally, it was common for the drivers to use the disabled parking as a bypass.
The Challenge
We spoke to the customer to explain what products are available, including their measurements, crash rating, as well as the cost of installation.
The site called for bollards and speed ramps to kerb the frequent speeding, minimising danger to pedestrians.
The Solution
After speaking to the customer, we determined that the site required 2 speed ramps. Based on the site’s layout, we determined these ramps needed to be 6 metres by 75 millimetres. This will mitigate the incoming speed of vehicles.
The bollards, which were needed outside the showroom and by the disabled parking, needed to be able to stop a large vehicle should one crash into it. Vehicle Impact Bollards were chosen as they would be easy to install and still serve their purpose.
The Installation
Implementation of the solutions began in June. It was agreed that the best solution was bolt down bollards.
Cast-in bollards require excavation, which takes time and would be a nuisance for the customer. The bolt-down options ensure that the site will not be disturbed for too long and the installation would be swift.
The bollards outside the showroom and the speed ramps were installed towards the end of June, while the bollards by the parking were implemented at the start of July.
