One of our most significant recent projects, the Larne Project was a major undertaking for the team. From the planning stages to the final installations, our team managed to deliver this complex and important project at a high standard.
The Challenge
This project presented significant challenges. The Larne Project had to meet a myriad of security requirements, meaning all solutions must be perfectly fit for purpose. This was a completely new site that was designed from the ground up, and Breezemount had a significant hand in how this site would be realised.
Working closely with Graham, Breezemount carried out detailed site inspections and planning exercises to determine the most suitable equipment and layout for the site. A key objective was to keep the facility organised and properly segmented, maintaining high levels of security throughout.
Every aspect of the design was thoroughly reviewed and refined before final decisions were made on the systems and equipment required.
The Solution
Due to the complexity of the site, a comprehensive security and access control solution was required. Gates, bollards, and barriers formed an integrated system designed to manage traffic flow, protect pedestrians, and control access safely and efficiently.
Working closely with a network of trusted suppliers, Breezemount developed a solution tailored to the site’s demanding operational and security requirements.
The main entry and exit gate, developed in collaboration with Cova, and ATG/Bakers’ emergency exit gate were among the site’s most critical security features. These gate systems were engineered to be both crash and security rated, providing robust protection while meeting the stringent requirements of such a high-profile site.
The site’s bollard solution was equally important. Using the site drawings, Breezemount and ATG collectively identified the optimal locations and specifications for each bollard. Like the gates, the bollards were designed to be crash and security rated, creating a cohesive perimeter protection solution that balanced safety with operational efficiency.
Elsewhere across the site, additional gates and barriers were incorporated to support the smooth movement of vehicles. Parking Facilities and Automatic Systems supplied a manual and automatic barrier respectively, while further sliding gates were integrated throughout the facility. Together, these systems delivered a coordinated access control solution that enables the site to operate safely, securely, and efficiently.
The Installation
This project was unique in that every member of our engineering team contributed to the installation at some stage throughout the process. Working alongside Graham, our engineers implemented each system safely, accurately, and in line with the wider construction schedule.
The primary installation phase spanned approximately two months at the end of 2025 and involved multiple stages of work across the site. Throughout the project, our engineers continuously monitored and tested installed systems to ensure optimal performance and quickly resolve any issues as they arose.
Given the high levels of activity that would soon be taking place on the site, ongoing inspections and maintenance were essential to ensure all systems remained in excellent condition ahead of final handover.
Retrospective
The Larne Project stands as one of the most important undertakings in our company’s 50-year history. Delivering a project of this scale required exceptional levels of planning, communication, and collaboration from everyone involved.
We are proud to have worked alongside Graham, Cova, ATG Access, and Parking Facilities, whose support and expertise contributed greatly to the project’s success.
The experience gained throughout this project has been invaluable for our engineering team. It has strengthened our approach to large-scale installations and will continue to shape how we deliver projects of every size in the future.
